Layout
Starring Meryl from the anime 'Trigun'. This particular screenshot of her pounding away on the typewriter is something I forsee myself doing, as the schoolyear has officially begun. Oh woe betide me.
Picture from Up in Smoke: A Trigun Gallery.
Some of the table borders on this page act funny in Netscape, But everything is just a dandy on Internet Explorer.

Pita! Pita! - you just have to get yer own! :p

Thursday, March 1, 2001 / 10:48 p.m.

My mind really cannot stay focused. I dabble a bit in my Indonesian, the poster for my school's student council...and now I'm blogging while listening to H.O.T.'s 'We Are the Future', loading email AND waiting with my sis for Christina Aguilera's Spanish version of 'Come on Over'.

Bad habits are hard to break. ^^ *sheepishly unrepentant*

Thursday, March 1, 2001 / 10:00 p.m.

No new layout, obviously. Heck, the new layout may be delayed for god knows how long...I am now officially in HIGHer SCHOOL. With a very HIGHer pile of tests and assesment tasks to do. Wah! *dies*
I should be studying for my Indo test, but I had just survived a maths test this morning and passed by the Year 11 calendar and saw more assesment tasks and tests lined up for us this coming March. Heelllpppppp!!!

A friend of mine lent me Gundam F-91 the VCD, but it failed to work on my computer. C'est la vie.

I also kicked my little sisters butt in Pocket Fighters last Saturday, thus regaining my throne as Pocket Fighter queen of the family! Bwahahaha!
Then NJ beat me in the game a few minutes later. No matter, I hit his head repeatedly with the almighty bap and a pillow. Getting pissed over video games is actually quite fun. =)
On Saturdays - to hell with schoolwork, I go out and have fun. Or I stay in and let my eyes oggle at the computer or TV screen for hours on end, and let my brain go dead.

    God give me a Saturday...
And oh hail the upcoming long weekend! No school this coming Monday - YEHEY!

Now if you excuse me, I must remember that sayur-sayuran means vegetables and...and...eek, I forgot what fruits is in Indonesian. Bah.

Sunday, February 25, 2001 / 06:22 p.m.

I signed up for yet another free webspace service, just for my blog.
What the heck, I guess I'll just use that dandy space for my personal page. Whenever the heck that'll be up.

I really don't have much to write about nowadays. ^^' Oh, but I do have a new layout coming up--but what else is new?

Saturday, February 24, 2001 / 06:27 p.m.

What does it take to make half-decent layouts on pitas? I do object to direct-linking, but good gracious...

I better experiment with layouts that need little to no pics at all. Maybe I'll just fuss with the colors...bah, we'll see.

Wednesday, February 21, 2001 / 09:19 p.m.

I took the CLAMP males matchmaking test that's been going around. And I am so VERY pleased with the results! My top 3 just so happen to be:

    # 1 Ferio
    # 2 Ascot
    # 3 Li Shaoran

Wheeeeee~! My favorite boys! Well, not so much for Ascot...but heck, he's still adorable!
I'm just killing in time in between writing an essay for Theory of Knowledge class, while I could still keep whatever's left of my sanity.

Tuesday, February 20, 2001 / 09:57 p.m.

Megumi - thanks for the thought. :} Well...a friend of mine is feeling quite neglected by me, and I feel horrible about it. Another problem--situation, rather, is just some adolescent heart problems. (see end of entry...)

Oh, and Tin? Joseph the Dreamer IS a Llyod-Webber production. T'was one of his earier works. This production your sister was in has the King of Egypt doing an Elvis 'impersonation', right? Or is it a more serious play...?
Lovely, lovely interlude at the end of your entry by the way. Echoes my current sentiments on a 'whatisface'.

(I have a humongous crush on someone and I swore never to have a crush while in Indonesia...I'm in the expatville for crying out loud, people come and go, too painful! Ugh. -_-')

Tuesday, February 20, 2001 / 09:26 p.m.

Enough about my day. It wasn't a totally bad day, but the sour grapes of the bunch just overshadowed what probably would've been a bright and sunny me.
I don't want to brood about it here. The issue is simply too painful. I've shed my tears and ached over it for the meantime, now I'm just...NR, they say - 'No reaction'. Think Trowa Barton, or Lantis from MKR, one of those types.

The weekend just sped by. Played Final Fantasy 9 on my friend's playstation; I do adore it, wish I got my own console so I could finish it. :]

I'm not sure if I'll be blogging in too regularly - midterms are coming. *shudder* Unit tests, here they come! @.@; And school is just getting more and more demanding as time progresses. It's only February and I'm already looking forward to the 3-week break in April, that'll be such a relief!
    Thanks to those who worried about my sudden 'dissappearance'. You know who you are. :}

Friday, February 16, 2001 / 09:15 p.m.

I'm worn out from a schoolweek so it'll just be hopeless musings on shallow little subjects in this entry. Those who want emotional/political/philosophical depth - go away. Come back some other day.

    CCS! Daisuki! :D Enough said.
I barely understand the manga I have, I've only seen less than a handful of the episodes (when it was still showing on NHK no less!)...but there's just this allure to it...*.*

Oh, and I happen to like Powerpuff girls too. :DLex, where did you get those pyjamas? :D
I wish I got those really nice PPG stufftoys and action dolls in Manila. ><; The ones here sadly lack in quality. They're really ugly.

Little tidbit for the happy lovers on V-day...Valentines Day started because St. Valentine was executed for sending out letters. That's love for ya.

Wednesday, February 14, 2001 / 06:55 p.m.

On this date last year - I did have a boyfriend, but I had more important things to worry about on the 14th. My grandfather had a heart attack, had to be rushed to the hospital...and the only 'romantic' thing I did was call up my then-boyfriend on the cellphone to wish him Happy Valentines in a deadpan, tired voice.

Single, available, playing, whatever - Valentines day is still more commercial venture than anything else. The only thing that keeps it alive are good, true intentions on this day.
Yet knowing some bigshot companies are raking in money from overly-sappy Valentines cards and overpriced chocolates - whether or not I'm attached on Valentines does not matter to me. I have more fun guy bashing or wisecracking with my other friends and just buying chocolate for myself.

So, what did I do today on Valentines? Nothing. It was just an ordinary day. A schoolday at that.

An ordinary day wherein I received Card Captor Sakura (in Indonesian) volume 12 - YEHEYYYYY!!!

Tuesday, February 13, 2001 / 07:12 p.m.

Two of my classmates asked Shoko how to say 'I Love You' in Japanese. Of course, Shoko answered "Aishiteru" or "Suki da".
I added "Another way to say it would be 'Anata wa baka desu."
Shoko burst out laughing. The two guys thought I was telling the truth - and in jest, started making use of this wonderful vocabulary on each other.
Really, for those dare - try saying "Anata wa baka desu" in a loving, honest-to-goodness tone of voice, to someone who doesn't know Japanese. Shoko and I had a BALL!
Yet another reason why I lovelove international schools.

Lex, get a picture in your head of the H.O.T. boys [preferbly] at their most manliness...and dress them into kiddy amusement park mascot costumes.
Now, picture the H.O.T. bois as those mascots, dancing and bouncing around while singing Candy.
That, was the Candy music video. That, is very, screamingly disturbing. *whimpers at the thought*

Monday, February 12, 2001 / 08:49 p.m.

Saturday, I was at Anyer, taking a breather from Jakarta's pollution and breathing in fresh sea air. Unfortunately, since its the rainy season no swimming nor tanning was done, I ended up just being a sitting duck in the hotel room reading, messing around with iBook (hail laptops!) or watching TV.

I borrowed Gundam F-91 from a friend, but I've been too lazy and/or stressed to really sit down and watch it. The pains of being a lower high school senior, ugh!

Lex - thanks for the link back! :) What a pretty, pretty layout, who's the main character on the banner? Looks like Squall from FF8, is it? ^^
I'm actually on hiatus on my Japanese language lessons in the meantime (no school yet, the only other school which teaches Jap here has teachers that don't speak english O_o' My Bahasa is not that good yet!), but Bahasa Indonesia is part of the school curric...and heck, I need it. I'm an expat brat, I have to get around somehow. Despite that, I can only get so far with the basics. *bleh*

H.O.T. seems to be making the rounds among various blogs nowadays! I only have two or three songs by them on my mp3 playlist though...oh, but I have this immense affection for 'We are the Future'. So catchy. :9
'Candy' traumatizes me. I was unfortunate enough to have seen the music video of Candy...with the HOT bois prancing about as those evil, bright, bubbly, childish MASCOTS. My eyes boggled out, my jaw froze, my stomach was doing the macarena.
It is just EVIL, sickeningly EVIL! Especially when it's a follow up to 'We are the Future'! Oh the humanity!

To end on a more pleasent note - I came across WhiteCat's blog! Oh yay! :) I better get around to updating my 'Reads' list!

Wednesday, February 7, 2001 / 10:50 p.m.

My day was good, except for the 'punch in the gut' reminder of why I try to steer clear of any political ambitions whatsoever. Certain upsetting events have ousted the current SRC vice president - and I'm very upset about it. I've already vented my frustrations through the afternoon, I don't want to talk about it here.

Jin x Hwaorang conversations part 2!
*I have just expressed a fancy for eloping with Leonardo diCaprio to NJ over the phone*
NJ: Can't you just elope with Hwaorang?
    Me: Hwaorang's with Jin.
    NJ: ...oh, okay okay.
Me: *disbelief* I just said JIN not JUN.
    NJ: ...You said JUN. JUN.
Me: Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?
    NJ: Yes.
    Me: *smirks*

Noelle, nice lecturer. *rofls* Goodness, I can fill you in with numerous stories about uhm, accents. *grin* I had one religion teacher who was Visayan and studied in Italy, then came back to the Philippines as a teacher.
I'll leave it up to you to imagine what his accent may have been like. Predictably, next to no one took him seriously.

Now my favorite victim--I mean, uhm, my favorite accent from a teacher, would be my math teacher. He's Canadian. No offense intended to the Canadians - but I have just watched the South Park movie, and anytime I hear my math teacher talk I'm two seconds away from asking him to say 'aboot'.
While we're on the subject of languages, accents, and all that fun. There was a oral recitation in Indonesian class today. We had to work in pairs, and I was working with a Japanese girl, Shoko.
This I say: Japanese-accented Indonesian is cute! Duapuluh-rapan, ape-ru, panas seka-ri - you should hear her mix Japanese and Indonesian together in a sentence or two!

Tin, say what you'd like about your mom's obssesiveness with everything being spick and span. My mom is worse, I swear. Well, she hasn't thought of dismantling the sink yet. Though I won't be surprised if ever she attempts to.
    Mothers. Don't we just...love them?
Hope you survive her spring cleaning, Tin. ^^

Monday, February 5, 2001 / 08:31 p.m.

Just a short blog before I go, mostly replies to Selene and Megumi cause they're sweet. ^.^

Well, my irregularities in blogging are obvious. I don't foresee myself blogging as much as before due to schoolwork (studying hasn't eaten me, but it does mostly certainly chews on me day by day, Selene ^^'). Heck, I should be doing schoolwork now but I prefer to digest my dinner. I don't work well on an empty or full stomach. :P
Thanks for the good luck wish, Selene~! :D Drink lots and lots of liquids and get well soon!

Megumi, thanks for the comments! Oh language barriers. Yes, we all want to be linguists. I wouldn't have to worry about communication in Indonesia for one thing. ^^; Your situation is nothing alien...I've had to endure that more than a few times with my Japanese classmates. ^^; Makes you feel sheepish afterwards, ne?

My math textbook calls for me. Ta-ta...

Monday, February 5, 2001 / 07:59 p.m.

Guess what? I'll have many the non-Japanese Asian otaku throwing tomatoes at me, probably even hate me...but I have something to say.

    I hate piracy.

Remember before when I ranted about my Trigun and City Hunter VCDs (see archives) having screwed up? That's where it all started. Do not mess with a deprived fangirl - she can, and will get very vicious. Sides, from that experience, I can see the full picture of the whole piracy issue.

For one thing, there is no customer support whatsoever. So yes you paid for the VCD, but even if it doesnt work - you can't go up to the counter and ask for it to be fixed or exchanged. There's a risk with every other pirated VCD you buy, not everything will work perfectly as opposed to that of an original VCD. If by chance, an original doesn't work - you can still go back to the store and get customer service. You'll still get your money's worth.

I always hated the arrogant bastards who go "Oh hail bootlegs...they're cheap" or "I believe in free anime". I don't know why, but such statements offend me. First thing that comes to mind are the creators. They sweat blood for the anime onscreen and the manga you read; the money earned from their hard work brings food on the table, sends their kids to school, pays their bills, lets them live comfortably. The money encourages them to work harder, to make more series. The thought alone encourages me to buy original, legitimate merchendise. I want my money to get back to the creator; I'd say that would be the best compliment of all - for the money spent to go to someone who rightfully earned it.

Don't go whining about originals being expensive. It's not that painful a cost - an original VCD costs 20,000 rupiah, legitimate manga publications cost around 5000-6000 rupiah. If you choose to order from abroad, it could get costly but in any other hobby you choose to pursue from toys to trains to anime and manga - the hole in your wallet's part of it. So find some other way to budget, or find another hobby. By the way for the 'serious' collectors - Pirated VCDs and illegally published manga won't have much value in the future as opposed to originals.

I'm also itching to scream this at the certain annoying creeps who smirk and wave their bootleg and pirated merchendise around like medals of honor: CHEAPSKATES. The whole lot of you.

I feel very strongly about this issue, and it's only here I can rant about it. I'm afraid if I'll raise the hue and rant about this on some place like the Pinoy Otaku Mailing List, It'll be prepping the place for a very hostile environment. Here be my blog on the other hand, and blogs are meant for bitching.

Added aggravation is the word that there are illegally translated and published manga in the Philippines now. I have no doubt a lot of people will be supporting that, while I, on the other hand - grimace at the mere thought of it. 1) does it have to be black market? and 2) why didn't some legitimate businessman think of doing this? it's a good business venture since GMA started calling themselves anime. Cash in while you can, silly things!

    So there. :p

Saturday, February 3, 2001 / 11:46 p.m.

Valentines? What valentines? I dunno, I already did a shoujo-based layout with that tint of romance last time...I think I'd like to get rid of the pastels for a change. Hail Trigun. So what if it's not Valentines Day related? :P You can see loverly V-day based layouts at Selene and Megumi's blogs.

School came and went. The first day was pretty much the most exciting part of the week, and the Student Representative Council meetings. Apparently, I am candidate for SRC president. Only because barely anyone else wants the job, I'm forced into it with two other students who have worked in SRC since last year or so. No big deal actually - I'll run, sure. If I'll win, I'll win. If I lose...no big deal. I do prefer working in a more low-key position where I can speak my mind whenever I'd like. The SRC president is supposed to remain unbiased towards the faculty and administration...

Lets see if I can actually look at my 'beloved' principal in the eye and smile sweetly, for real.
Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha. No way. I look at the principal in the eye, I'll smile, and I'm thinking "We do not abide by a system, we are at a tender age in which we need to be understood, we need to be heard. I don't think you bother to do any of the latter." Course, that's being polite. This is public domain, and I'm in a peaceful mood - I'll probably post in my more heated and honest version of the above when I feel more sadistic or something.

I have mentioned I was taking up Theory of Knowledge class. I do like my teacher there, and the subject matter is indeed very interesting - but then I'm reminded of what my old Religion teacher said to me: "You'll know you have a very good Philosophy teacher if you become atheist by the end of the year."
My teacher in TOK must be doing something right, for after the second lesson of the week I find myself at odds with my faith.
Retraction to an earlier blog entry- my teacher in TOK, Business Studies, and Homeroom does not teach Hospitality studies.

Hospitality Studies, while it has some promise - is generally dull compared to the other subjects. It's the more technical aspects of tourism: management and the business behind hotels, restaurants and those sort of things; The only thing that keeps the studies lively are my smart aleck classmates, and the promise that if you do persue ambitions involving Tourism and Hospitality one day - thats one very useful referral in your resume, with a certificate to boot. I won't consider it as a career, but it would be a pretty good experience.

Last Friday was very, very fun. As usual, little could go wrong on a Friday - and at the end of the day, Recreational Studies! Wall Climbing at Pondok Indah was the big event...and it was...quite the experience...

I was scared half to death on my way to the top! Halfway up, I for nervous, and further way up I started praying under my breath! While it was certainly exhilarating, I'm not eager to wallclimb for a second time around!

And that, everybody, is my first week of school. Bow. ;]
